artist statementI have always been interested in how we create meaning in our lives and in cultures that blur the line between the sacred and the secular. To that end, I have spent many years learning various maps of consciousness to uncover what organizes my perceptions of reality.
I received my formal arts training at Franconia College (BA) and Florida State University (MFA). Since 2000, I have intensively studied with and received rites of passages from pampamesayoq and altomesayoq medicine people in the Peruvian Andes. My understanding of the cosmology known as Tiwantinesuyu or the four-fold path of consciousness is the wellspring of my passion. Its exquisite worldview ignites my imagination, opens my heart, and informs all of my actions. It, too, has been the inspiration for my artwork. |
